Healthy Ingredients

Use organic ingredients if preferred – this recipe works either way.

Ground turkey – look for natural, free of antibiotics. (I used Simple Truth that was organic)

Burger buns – Dave’s Killer Bread – 6g protein each, making this a high protein burger. (21 whole grains & seeds, less-processed, contains wheat) Swap for romaine lettuce leaves for a gluten-free and low-carb option.

Homemade taco mix – organic, real seasonings. (see recipe card below)

Diced tomatoes – fresh or canned. (Odds & Ends Organic canned tomatoes)

Dairy-free mozzarella – This recipe includes a dairy-free mozzarella-style cheese. I use it sparingly for that creamy, melty goodness without the dairy. If you’re watching your fat intake, feel free to use less or skip it altogether. It still tastes great either way! (Follow Your Heart brand)

Spring mix lettuce– (Pesticide-free from 80 Acres Farm)

Purple onion – this balances the flavor nicely on the turkey burger

Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper – for extra heat if you like a little spice!

How to Cook the Turkey Burgers on the Blackstone

1. Start by preheating your griddle to 375°F. (or low setting for outdoor griddle)

2. Now mix the burger blend:

• Ground turkey, cumin, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, olive oil, water for moisture, and sea salt if preferred.

3. Form into 4 patties: (about ¼ lb each) I used gloves to help with hand mixing or you can free-style.

4. Let’s griddle the burgers:

• Place on griddle

• Cover with a dome lid and cook for about 8 minutes, flipping halfway

5. Flip & smash:

• Flip again at 8-minute mark

• Lightly smash the burgers tacos and finish cooking on the Blackstone – this flattens the burger just enough, and allows the juices to release and re-absorb

6. You want to cook until internal temp hits 165°F (about 2–4 more minutes)

7. Griddle onions for 2-3 minutes. (add splash of water for moisture)

8. Melt cheese by microwave for 15 seconds for melted gooey cheese

Build Your Taco Burger

• Lightly toast the buns on the griddle – (brush a small amount of oil if you want a moist crunch)
